"After all, Lieutenant, if you are out there in a shuttle by yourself, and
find something someone doesn't want you to, you'd be pretty much a sitting
duck, as the saying goes. We don't want to put you in a situation of
unnecessary risk." Toby's voice was calm, soft, and gentle one might even
say concerned for her physical well being.

Kylee bit back her initial response to Toby's words, her Klingon heritage

pulling her towards performing the more risky situations. "I believe that
the only way to properly locate the exact location is to go out there and
search for any signs that the probe may be unable to run, due to the effects
from the flares as well as the area itself, which the shuttle, with access
to more power, may be able to detect," she said, trying to word it so that
she would be allowed to go, since she was going a bit stir crazy on board
the ship, wanting to test this theory in person, not stuck staring at more
data.

A brief glance toward Toby pulled the Captain's attention away from Nix for
a few moments. "Have you spoken with the security on the matter of possible
dangers you may be facing not of the natural kind of the flares?" The
comment was of course intended for Nix as her eyes once more fell to the
Science Chief.

Kylee sighed softly, beginning to think it might have just been easier for
her to go to the planet. "No captain, but I know what I could run in to out
there. It's not as though I do not understand the risks, both natural as
well as anything caused by those out there that may be responsible for this
problem," she said. "I have been in dangerous areas before with my research
and I have learned to prepare for any scenarios that may occur."

The part klingon Captain's hands clasped together loosely, "You cannot go
out there alone. I want you to take someone who is apt for maneuvering the
shuttle in a possible hostile territory. Bring Master Chief Petty Officer
Smith with you, place him in the pilot's seat. His sole focus will be
piloting and monitoring your safety. This way you can focus on your
research."

"On top of that, he realizes the limited nature of the protecitons found on
a shuttle. They don't come equipped, normally, with a large array of
weapons, and the shields are not as resilliant as those of a starship." Toby
chimed in, "With the protections against the radiation, there will be less
in the way of other defenses." He didn't say it, but he doubted that Kylee
truly understood the dangers of being out in a shuttle, she would be more
vulnerable than if she were on the planet with a working phaser in hand,
especially if she were alone.

Kylee nodded, the excitement building as she thought about her circuit to
find the data she needed. She hadn't been off the ship since the Tamco, and
was excited to actually be able to do research almost completely on her own.
She turned her gaze to Toby, nodding a bit more slowly. She knew what she
was doing, and understood how vulnerable she would be in the shuttle. The
benefit of the shuttle would be its manuveurability.

The Captain nodded, "Yes that does mean you can go Lieutenant," her hand
raised with caveat, "You will have four hours then I will require you to
return. I am sorry if this does not fit into plans but we cannot have you
lingering there as a target for too long."

"Yes Captain," she said, hiding the disappointment at the short time, but
planning to make the most of it. "I will Master Chief Petty Officer Smith in
the shuttle bay then?"

"You will contact him and arrange with him." Vilqa stated, "After your time
out we can discuss whether any further outings can or will occur."

Sipping his coffee, Toby sat quietly watching Kylee, hoping the woman could
hear the finality in the captain's tone, and not try to push it.

Kylee nodded, looking between the two of them. "I will contact him quickly
to set up a departure time," she said, thankful she'd even been allowed to
go.

Vilqa nodded, "Is there anything else you needed Lieutenant?"

Kylee shook her head, gathering up her PADDs. "No captain, unless there is
anything else you or the commander wished to tell me before I contact
Smith," she said, prepared to take her leave of them if there was nothing
else.

"No I have nothing else Lieutenant," Vilqa replied, "And you Commander?"

"I have nothing else to say at this time." Toby drained his coffee after
speaking and looked like he was now trying to decide if he should nap or go
work.

"I shall speak with you after the investigation then," she said, giving a quick nod before turning and exiting the room, immediately tapping her comm badge to contact Smith.
