Kylee tapped her comm. badge as she strode through the hallway. "Lox.. care
to discuss the results we're getting so far?" she asked, holding her PADD
in her hand as she studied the results.
Justin smiled, and tapped his comm. "I'll meet you in Astrometrics."
Stranger things had happened, but he was currently working one section
away from Astrometrics on a jell-pack that had somehow sprung a leak. It
was an easy fix, take the old one out, clean up the mess, replace it with
a new one. The hard part was determining why it had happened in the first
place. There wasn't anything in the access panel that would have caused
it to break, yet it had.
Kylee nodded, turning about and making her way down the hallway to the
Astrometrics lab. "I'll see you there in a few minutes," she said,
breaking in to a slow jog as she ended the comm, wanting to find out
quickly what the issue was with the wormhole, wanting to verify these
results and discuss probe they should send out to the area
Justin stepped in to Astrometrics and looked around to see if Kylee had
arrived yet.
Kylee entered right behind Justin, moving inside as the door slid shut.
"I'm here.. was actually on my way to engineering to find you."
"I wasn't there. I was a section over, replacing a jellpack." Justin
said. "I noticed the first probe says the ship is missing, and the
wormhole can't seem to close." He stepped over to a console as he spoke
and brought up the probe data "The first customized probe should be
entering the system now. The second was just launched."
"I'm interested to see the data that second probe will be sending. Perhaps
we should make sure to keep an eye out for any trail from the nacelles, or..
and I don't want to say it, but it does need to be mentioned, any signs of
an explosion or debris," she suggested, hoping that the ship was not in a
condition that those on board could not be retrieved.
The room shifted, showing the system and what the probes saw. "If I
superimpose the last know location of the ship... " Justin did so. "they
are awfully close to the wormhole, though a ship such as their s should be
able to withstand anything known about wormholes."
"Yes.. but there is also something unknown going on with this wormhole,
and very little is known about them anyway," she stated, looking up at the
images being projected. "I want to see about focusing one of the probes on
the wormhole entrance, to perhaps see if there is something there that
could be anchoring it open."
"Probe two is en-route, we can re-task it to do that Easily enough." Justin
looked over the data flowing in. "Lets see... Primary probe is detecting
normal readings, other than the wormhole and the lack of ship. That
doesn't make sense."
"We need to launch a probe that we can be expected to lose," she stated,
"So we can send it as close to the wormhole as possible, and have another
nearby to piggyback the information to. That wormhole is where are answers
are going to be, I am sure."
"Probes 2 through 5 are expected to be lost, and are expected to deal with
the wormhole. That is what we designed them for." Justin was smiling,
this science offer was just as gung-ho as he was "Probe 2's data is
starting to come in. Wavelengths from low ultra violet to upper infra
reads there" He pointed to the section displaying the 'light' wave
lengths, including those outside normal vision "Interesting. "
"Yes, and we need them all out there, to find out what is going on," she
said, the missing ship bothering her. She turned to look at the display from
the probe, her brow furrowing.
"The... that is strange. I'm getting ghost images from the probe. Could it
be two wormholes, causing them to get stuck open? Or... could it be
something holding the wormhole open causing it to be out of space-time
phase?" Justin sounded confused, and awed.
Her eyes widened at the results, shaking her head quickly. "We need to stop
the ship now, and stay back from that, until we get a probe that can analyze
those readings better. We may need to start looking for a ship out of
phase," she said. "Inform the Bridge, while I see about getting a phase
detector probe ready for launch. Better yet, have them stop at the edge of
the system. That way we can be nearby, but still out of harm's way." Justin
said.
She nodded, tapping her comm badge. "Commander Blake, we need to stop the
ship on the edge of the system. With what we are getting for results from
the probes, it would be best to stay back from the wormhole and work from
this position."
"Already done. Well not out of the system, but back out of range of the
wormhole. And we're keeping an eye on it." Came Toby's voice over the com.
"Third probe away. It is headed to the mouth of the wormhole. Let's see what
we find." Justin said as more state started pouring in. "It isn't out of
phase... at least not in the sense that it is out of phase with the universe....
more like a transmission that you can't quite tune in."
Data started to flow in quickly. "Probe lining up to enter the worm hole. It
will take a set of reading then enter the event horizon of the wormhole." Justin
said.
