Kat had finished up a few last minute things in sickbay before heading
towards her quarters to get changed and go to the planet. As much as she
needed to get away she almost hated to. Tired of feeling melancholy
over the situation with Nick and most of all with her mother's
condition. She was relieved she'd finally had some good news for a
change. Unfortunately some things she'd hoped for hadn't changed, She
didn't exactly need Nick to make her happy but it certainly had helped.
She was headed bag in hand toward the transport to the planet
determined to knock the melancholy feeling perhaps making it numb for a
while. She'd been so wrapped up in thought she hasn't realized she'd
passed her destination and was heading towards the
 security
 office.

Jason had just stepped out of his office, finishing
up alot of work and reports. He turned to face the closing
 doors.
"Computer, lock these doors. No entry without my authorization. DuMont
FourSevenAlphaTango" he finished as the computer replied and the doors
locked. He started to walk towards his quarters, which
were past the security office. He really wasn't looking up, keeping his
nose in his work, as everyone around him made a hole for him as he
moved through the
corridor. Jason had just moved past corridor 31 baker when he ran into
Kat. The bump kinda shocked him out of his paper work. "I'm very sorry,
doctor. I didn't mean to"

Kat looked up colliding with the new security officer. "I think it
should be me that's sorry." she told him looking at him rather
strangely not recognizing him. "Forgive me for staring." she said
realizing she was near the security office. For a brief moment she
thought to inquire about Lieutenant
Reed but then decided it best not to knowing, he'd be in touch with her
once more when he was ready. "I'm sorry I don't believe I've had the
pleasure... I'm Lieutenant Commander
 Katerina Wilkinson." she told
 him offering her hand.

Jason grabbed her hand and shook it. "Lieutenant Jason DuMont. Glad
to meet you, Commander. Now what brings you to security?"

"huh what?" she mumbled then realized where she'd ended up then
felt like she had a lump in her throat as she almost hoped to run into
someone else. "I'm sorry I must have missed something somewhere." she
explained. "Are you by any chance heading off ship on R&R?" she
asked not trying to be forward  but just inquiring.

"Actually I was just about to head to my quarters, get changed, and
head for the picnic planetside" he chuckled. "And you?"

" I was on my way to the transport actually not really interested in
joining in on the picnic though." she told him. "for kinda personal
reasons." she added.

Jason shrugged. "Where abouts are you going?" he inquired, not trying
 to pry

Kat shrugged "I don't know really, I just thought I'd take some time
to walk along the beach and do some hard thinking...maybe find some
place to be alone for a while."she told him trying to keep her composure
in check and remain professional. "alot has..." she began then trailed
off knowing what she had to say was probably best discussed with the
counselor.

You didnt need to be an empath to see something was wrong with the
Doctor. "Listen, I think the beach party can wait, if youd like to
talk?"

Seeing the lieutenant was hard enough as just the sight of his
uniform reminded her of someone she was missing. "I said I wasn't going
to the party...but having a friendly ear might just be what this doctor
needs." she said. "but I don't want to ruin your plans to get off the
ship." she said.  "I suppose you could join me on that walk before you
join the party." she suggested. " That is if you wanted to."

Jason chuckled slightly. "I dont mind at all. I'll go get changed,
and we'll meet up somewhere. You pick the place. Sound alright?" he said
arching his brow ever so slightly.

Kat thought for a moment "why don't I wait at the transport for you
and we could go to the planet together." she said softly feigning a
light smile. "and lieutenant....thank you." she said simply for the
compassion he showed her.

Jason nodded. "Anytime, ma'am. Ill see you shortly" he said, as he
spun on his heel and headed for his quarters

With a nod Kat headed  back towards the transporter room after
stopping to change from her uniform to a simple pale green peasant
blouse and darker green skirt covering her bikini clad form and sandals
on her feet.

=/\= Ten Minutes Later =/\=

Jason stepped into the transporter room, sporting his leisure pants,
and his favorite blue shirt, made from fabric found on Risa. "Ready,
Commander?"

Kat looked up as the lieutenant entered. "I believe so" she said
ready as ever to take that walk to assess her life and all that had
happened over the past year. What she'd give to change a few things.

As they stepped up on the transporter pad, Jason nodded to the
transporter chief. "Energize"

=^=  moments later =^=

The next thing Kat saw and felt under her feet was the warm sand
as the two shimmered into view on the planet. She looked around for a
moment for a spot to set her things down before slipping her sandals off
and walk towards the waters edge. "Lieutenant..I really do appreciate
you taking time out to talk with me..I'm sure you'd rather be over with
the rest of the crew and getting to know them."she told him. "Shall we
begin that bit of a walk?" she asked.

As the materialization
process ended, Jason set his stuff next to the doctors. "Your very
welcome, Commander" he said as he stood up straight, acknowledging the
walk ahead, "Sure, lets go"

Kat gave him a smile "please call
me Kat or doc." she said. as she walked by his side. "So how are you
finding the Ridge lieutenant?" she asked trying to sort out how best to
explain how she was feeling. "I really am sorry I'd bumped into you like
 that, you'd think
that after two years on board I'd surely know my way around." she
added. "My mind has been on other things lately." She continued.

Jason smiled. "Very well, Kat. The ridge," he said as he paused for a
deep breath, "is a wonderful ship. I absolutely adore it, and I'm
beginning to feel right at home" He said, answering her question. "And
don't worry about our run-in. Its quite alright" He smiled.

"I had a difficult time adjusting when I first came aboard
fortunately I'd found a good friend in security who'd helped me
through............at the time he was new to the ship as well only it is
his first assignment out of the academy." she told him. 'I've been on
board two years and it still it feels new at times."she added. "maybe
it's the new faces and a few familiar ones missing that's getting to
me." she said as she shrugged.

Jason nodded to the doctor's remarks. "That's understandable.
Its...." he trailed off, chuckling "human". He then remembered how she
sounded earlier "Ehhhh...... Whats up, Doc?" he said, mimicking a 21st
century cartoon character.

"I guess I just miss that friend right now." she told him.
"Sometimes one can be totally surrounded by other people and still feel
so alone." she continued feigning a light smile. "I've been through alot
in the past few months." she told him. "I'd been attacked for no other
reason than for my relationship with that friend," she explained. "and
what's worse I think I nearly destroyed that friendship trying to help
when it wasn't wanted......and now all I want more than anything is to
fix it......but he's not here." she said letting out a sigh. "and as if
that wasn't enough I nearly lost my mother to a deadly illness." she
said feeling on the verge of breaking down. She stopped walking and
bowed her head covering her face with her hands. "I'm sorry I
shouldn't....." she said softly letting her voice trail off not
finishing that sentence.

Jason stopped walking and looked at her compassionately. "Doc, I'm no
counselor but you can talk to me"

Kat glanced up at Jason. "I'm sorry I know this is very unbecoming
of a superior officer." she told him as regained her composure finding
herself once more.  "I really shouldn't burden you with this... you
should be joining the rest of the crew and getting to know them as
well." she said glancing past him for a moment then returning her
emerald gaze upon his face.

Jason put his hand on her shoulder. "Doc....Kat" he said quickly
address "Its quite alright. I can handle it. As far the party, it can
wait." He said as he continued to walk with the young doctor.

Kat patted  Jason's hand at her shoulder. "I don't know how much more I
can tell you other than that." she said. "It's helped to at least be
able to tell someone how I'd been feeling" she said. "you can go join the rest of the crew, I think I see a familiar face." she tells him. "and thanks again for listening." she adds. "hopefully I can return the favor sometime." she tells him.
