[Vimy Ridge]
Toby nodded. "If there's someone you trust who can take your place and watch
it, why don't you go get a little rest and maybe something to eat? You look
like you could use it."
Kylee shook her head, not really trusting anyone in this situation. "I'll be
fine.. the hard part of this is almost over anyway.. Once everything is in
place, anyone can monitor the work," she said, beginning to move the second
asteroid in to place. Those on the surface would begin to notice the area
about them darkening.
[Shuttle]
Justin pulled himself out of the console and closed it back up. "Loose ODN
connection was the problem. All set. Secondary systems should be read
ready to go, except the ones already maintaining our metaphasic shields."
Marcus adjusted his seat and looked at Lox, "Correct Commander, Secondary
systems are go."
[Vimy Ridge]
Toby nodded to Kylee then tapped his badge, "Blake to away team. You should
be starting to notice a more noticeable drop in radiation and in sunlight.
Please finish up and return to the ship as soon as possible."
Kylee focused her attention back to the screen before her, aiding in guiding
the second of the large asteroids in to place. In a few minutes, those on
the planet would begin to see a noticeable decrease of light as the second
asteroid aided to block out the majority of the sun's light. "Planetary
readings are showing radiation levels are beginning to drop. However, this
issue needs to find permanent resolution to prevent any problems from the
reduction in sun light."
[Shuttle]
"Commander, this is Saladin." Commander Blake just reported that the medical
team is on their way to the shuttle. We should be ready to leave within 30
minutes."
Cait exited the tunnels with her medical team, the equipment, and the
security team that was helping with stuff. She gave Saladin a weary smile as
she saw him. "Everyone's out and accounted for, Commander."
Kat walked out of the tunnels relieved to see the shuttle. She gave a nod as
she handed Marcus some of the gear she was carrying. "thanks " she said
simply before she'd climb aboard. She was unsure how long they'd been in
those tunnels, during the last few hours though she'd begun to feel a bit
claustrophobic having been there so long.
Saladin stepped out to give the medical team a helping hand, moving some of
their equipment into the shuttle's storage. This planet had become
claustrophobic to him and he was glad to be nearly read to depart.
As the last equipment was stored he looked across to Lox, "I think
commander, that we're ready to depart." A look to Cait, "When you're ready
Commander Blake."
Justin took the pilot's seat, and started up the main engines wait on the
Order to lift off.
Dropping wearily into a seat, Cait looked over at Justin. "Take us home,
Commander Lox." She leaned back in her seat after buckling up and tried to
relax, her mind on seeing Toby and their daughter again.
Kat took a seat and fastened the belts around her relieved to be returning
to the ridge. In her mind she was already making plans for some down time.
Justin started the lift off sequence. As they climbed the reading on the
panels showed that the planet was still being hit with a lot of solar flare
radiation, but that it was much less than when they had come down.
[Ready Room]
Vilqa pulled herself out of her seat, the conversation with the Admiral went
as she had suspected and so it was time for the Ridge to pass over the
reigns. A quick uniform adjustment and sip of water preceded her returning
to the bridge. "Commander status report?" The part klingon sat down and
crossed her legs, appearing paler now than she had before disappearing
earlier. It was time to hear the happenings she missed before informing Toby
the Admiral's orders to return to the 14th Fleet.
Toby turned to face Vilqa, "Away team is about ready to return, and we've
got one asteroid firmly in place, and getting more moved into place. An
unexpected rainstorm on the planet helped lower the radiation around the
caves as well."
"Good, good job." Vilqa nodded briefly toward Nix. "It seems the Admiral has
issued orders and our assistance is no longer required with the christening
of four new vessels to the fleet. We are to return to the Fourteenth." She
said in a hushed tone toward Toby, "I want to give our teams a little mental
break. Do you agree?"
Toby answered with a nod as he spoke, "Many can use it."
Vilqa nodded, "I had suspected so. I do not want to linger long but I do
feel a week is deserved." For the first time in a while there was if nothing
else a hint of a smile.
Kylee arched her brow at the fact they weren't sticking around to finish
this. A slight frown appeared on her face as she focused on the screen
before her. After all that work they'd put in, and now they weren't going to
be able to see it through. She shook her head slightly as she finished
moving the final asteroid in place, checking the position to make sure it
would help to protect the planet as much as possible.
[Shuttle]
"Lox to Vimyridge, request permission to dock in shuttle Bay 1." Justin
followed protocol as he easily, and without any jolts or bumps, climbed
quickly out of the atmosphere.
[Bridge]
"Permission granted." Toby paused a moment then added, "And Commander, don't
scratch the paint this time. We don't have any touch up paint."
Vilqa's lips quivered slightly more to that the corners raised a millimetre
or so upward. "Welcome home away team." Nix' expression did not go unnoticed
by Vilqa and she understood the feeling of incompletion but the Ridge's
actions were only one piece of this puzzle.
[Shuttle]
Cait chuckled softly as she heard Toby's comment. This mission had been
rough, physically and most definately, mentally. Every suit would need to be
rechecked to make sure it was still completely functional after the amount
of radiation they had been exposed too. Her mind went on the report she
would be leaving for the next medical team who came in to deal with the
hopefully improved situation.
"Understood Commander.. not a scratch." Justin chuckled has he brought the
shuttle in for a soft landing on the shuttle bay. "Bay doors closing. Force
shields in place. You may disembark." He continued the shutdown process of
the
shuttle.
Kat smirked at the exchange between Lox and Toby. She even chuckled a little
bit finding it amusing. She'd removed her helmet once she was safely on
board the shuttle rubbing her tired eyes and finally getting to that
annoying itch on the end of her nose as it had returned. As the Lox gave the
order to disembark she quickly removed her belts ready to exit the craft.
