Always one to travel light, Takis didn't even drop his bag off in his
quarters before searching out the Science Chief. The large Bolian had
always had problems with first impressions, usually owing to his propensity
to speak without thinking, but he was getting better with time. This would
be, he hoped, a positive encounter.

Kylee tapped her fingers upon her desk as she looked over the new data
coming in. Her face showed she still wasn't sleeping well, and was
contemplating her next step. She did not know if she wanted to go to the
planet, or request to go to the asteroid field. She thought she could
perhaps be of more use to everyone there.

Takis' boot thumped clumsily against the door as he stepped up to it. He
sighed and pressed the button to announce himself.

Kylee arched her brow, glancing up for a moment as she heard the chime.
"Enter," she said, before lowering her gaze back to the PADD in her hand.

Takis stepped inside, easing the pack off his shoulder and standing straight
when he spotted the young woman at the desk. "Crewman Second Class Takis
Daephon reporting in, Ma'am," he said. Then, without thinking: "Wow, you
don't look so good."

Kylee blinked, her gaze snapping up quickly to look at Daephon. "I've got a
new crewman? How in the hell did I miss that?" she asked, quickly digging
through the PADDs over her desk. "Sit.. sit.. I'll find your orders in a
moment.." she said, indicating the chair across from her and arching her
brow at his comment. "We're a bit busy around her crewman, meaning long
hours. How long have you been on board?"

"Only a few hours," Takis replied. "There was a delay in getting onboard,
as I have an identical twin brother who's also in Starfleet. Causes
problems all the time. Anything I can do to lessen the workload? I'm ready
to get started."

"Glad to have you aboard... As for work, that will be in a bit.. first I
need to learn a bit more.. First.. what skills do you have?" she asked. "And
in which sciences are you focused?" She glanced up as she continues to
search for the correct orders, before lowering her gaze to her desk.

"Oh, ah, well," Takis mumbled. "Ethnobotany was my specialty of study at
the Academy. I also aced my advanced survival training. I'm also a good
cook, and I can reach things on high shelves."

Kylee stopped her searching, lifting her gaze to stare at Takis."You're not
nervous, are you?" she asked, noting him mumbling, though a smirk finds her
lips about the joke on reaching high shelves. "I'm sure those skills will
come in handy.."
"You might be surprised, Ma'am," Takis said, smiling. "They're always
trying to maximize space on these starships. Sometimes an extra couple
centimeters' reach can save a lot of time." The fact that she'd noticed his
nervousness made him even more nervous.

Kylee chuckled softly at his joke, crossing her arms before her and placing
them on her desk. "This your first time on a starship, Takis?" she asked.
"Or, there another reason that you're so nervous?"

Takis sighed, slouching a little, but still smiling. "Truthfully, Ma'am, I
worked really hard to get this assignment; this ship is prime real estate.
I don't want to screw it up, and I do have a tendency to speak without
thinking." He was glad to see the Chief's mood improving.

Smiling, Kylee nodded as she sat back in her seat. "Well, the hard work is
just starting for ya here. We're in the middle of trying to save the
inhabitants of a planet from the solar flares, and my department is fairly
low in staff, so you will have plenty to keep you busy," she said. "If you
are here, that means you've deserved the position, so I trust you to do fine
here."

"Thanks, Chief," Takis said. "I won't let ya down."
