[Science Lab]

Toby frowned at Justin, "No warning before this? Nothing to indicate it was
a danger?" His voice was a growl, and he hit his combadge, "Red alert, raise
sheilds and prepare for incoming solar flare. Radiation measures in effect.
All unnecessary personnel and families to interior portions of the ship!" He
knew K`y would come demanding to know what was going on even as the lighting
went red and his orders were reissued throughout the ship.

[Astronomy Lab]

Vilqa was about to reply to the other part klingon when the room darkened to
emergency lighting, warning beacons whaled and red slow flashes started; in
one swift motion the Captain turned and the doors of the Lab opened, "Toby!"
She spoke urgently as she jogged the steps to the previous lab, "What the
hell is going on?" Not that there was much time for explanation.

Kylee looked around quickly as the lights flashed, her brow arching. She
quickly followed after the captain back to join the others to find out what
was going on to have caused a red alert to be raised.- Hide quoted text -

Marcus glanced to the captain, she looked furious, in a good way, if that
was possible. He was just receiving the affirmative from his ops team that
they would have one person track the flare as the rest helped with
evacuation to the ships interior. He knew, with so little time it was going
to be a rough ride. He waited for Toby to answer, and then for dismissal so
they could all run to their own stations. Millions of thoughts seemed to be
racing through his mind at once.

All of the system tweaking, all of the processes he had established in the
next two weeks were sure to be sent hay-wire. He began to think about which
crew members he would put in charge of which routines, and finally cut
himself off as he thought through the conversations that would be needed
with engineering. "What the heck, " He growled to himself more than anyone
around him.

Toby was working on containing his anger, he wanted to scream and rant but
knew that would do no good. "Lox just informed us that a solar flare is
heading straight for us. Completely, apparently, out of the blue and in a
completely different trajectory than any previous flares." The last bit
added based on what he already knew and where they had positioned the ship,
out of immediate harm's way.

Justin blinked. then shook his head "Commander.. I'm sorry.. we can stand
down. The probe was just vaporized by that flare.. not us. As I said...
I was watching the probe's data, not the ship's."

Nick frowned at Lox's assessment, he already had mobilized most of security
to offer assistance where necessary... Mostly to ensure there was no
internal insanity while the rest of the ship dealt with external. Still
though, he wanted to make sure the Ridge stayed in one piece... Once Lox
said they were green he relaxed... which consisted of his shoulders
dropping a hair. "How far away was the probe?" he asked. If it was
close, then that meant the flare could still pose a viable threat...

"Um... " Justin rechecked the PADD "It was in the asteroid belt, at 247.45
mark 6 on the far side of the orbital plane from here."

Marcus blinked, "The flare was heading for the probe, not the ship? That's a
big difference commander."

The usual warm sparkling crystal blue gaze of Toby was gone, currently his
eyes were two crystal blue chuncks of ice, and from the tension around his
jaw he had his teeth clenched, clenched fists finished off all the physical
clues of the XO's displeasure, finally he spoke, ever so softly, "Next time
Mr Lox, double check your readings before you report a threat to the ship."
His hand came up, and tapped his badge, "Stand down red alert."

"Yes sir." Justin replied, and shook himself a bit to wake himself up more.
"I must be more tired than I though."

Vilqa gave Lox her own look if disbelief, "A probe was confused with the
vessel?" She furrowed her brow and looked toward the door wondering if she
aught simple walk straight out before the next catastrophe occurred to
baffle her mind. This had to all be some unexplainable dream, she had damned
good and disciplined officers tonight's events brought awe to her beliefs.
