Kylee spun about, a fire flashing in her eyes. "You all seem to have
everything figured out, so.. I will go back to being understaffed and
overworked because of this situation. I've had crew that do not show, so I'm
forced to work double shifts going over all the data coming in.. I haven't
slept more than ten hours in the last few days.. and when I give an idea..
it seems to be ignored by most here.." she said, her own temper building,
and probably just as bad as the captain's, though she kept her tone calm.
"So.. I would prefer.. with the hours I am conscious.. to spend them going
over this new data.. If that is okay with you, ma'am."

"Toby continue here," she ordered her Number One as she stepped away and
motioned with Nix to follow her into the lab the woman was going into and
not until the door closed and sealed them in there did the Captain speak.

Stunned by the Lieutenant's outburst he only barely nodded to K`y before the
woman left. Kyle was in for a world of hurt if she thought she could get
away with garnering pitty from the captain, or for that matter, anyone else
on the crew. He shook his head and looked at those still gathered,
"Gentlemen, forgive me if I am in error, but she suggested waiting until
results were returned from the astroid belt, did not Lox just give some such
results?"

Marcus was somewhat unused to such our bursts, and the last few months on
board the Ridge had not yet fully readied him for the full range of
emotional outbursts humanoid species other than Vulcans were more than
likely to express. He scratched the back of his neck, "Yes, the results were
just provided." His immediate reaction for the last two years was to result
to a more clinical and emotionless response, "I believe a contingent of some
kind should be sent to investigate further, but still believe communication
with the second planet is not only necessary but is required by protocol.
We're investigating a solar phenomenon within the vicinity of two federation
planets, it would be not only against Federation regulations to avoid
communication with such planets, but arguably ethically wrong as well."

"Yes commander, that is correct" replied a rather stunned and bewildered
Justin. "Ther eis quite a bit more data coming in as well. The probes we
sent started on two separate places and have been working their way around
the belt. It is a slow process and we just received this info. "

Nick remained silent, he didn't seem all that surprised. From what he knew
of her, that was right on par, he had just asked for her help before and she
seemed to dislike that fact at the time. He himself had been working double
shifts as well... but then... that was, more or less, his choice. Helped
him keep his mind sharp and focused instead of thinking of Cugino. He had
nodded briefly when he was told the Ridge wouldn't be put in any danger.
He'd wait for any questions before talking now, and wait for the Captain's
return. His mind on the potential of an away mission... He realized he
didn't have the luxury of silence then... "Would I be able to get a terrain
layout of the planet's surface?" he asked.

"I suspect they are on file... and operations can get you up to date sca.."
Justin was interrupted as his PADD nearly screamed for attention "Commander,
we need full shields, now." The color drained from his face as re read was
was appearing on his PADD. "Solar flare... coming right for us."

Saladin looked to Nick with a nod about the terrain layout, "I'll send you
what we ha..." and trailed off with a sharp look to Lox at his announcement.
His mind thought quickly and he immediately tapped his comm badge, "Saladin
to Lieutenant Keynes, Lox just reported a flare coming out way, track the
trajectory, origin, anything unusual, record it all."
Then back to Justin, "How long?"

"60 seconds ... the flare will contact our shields, 3 seconds later, the
hull." Justin said. "it is a full plasma discharge solar flare. Not
good... Not good at all."

[Astronomy Lab]

"Lieutenant Nix," the Captain spoke firmly, "You will address me, and those
of higher ranked with you accordingly and you will respect an order." She
continued, "As for you running short staffed. As department head it is your
duty to deal with those situations and to inform Commander Blake of what
has occurred. We do not read minds and we should not be expected to mind
over each department. You were placed in this role because we believed you
could do the job. If you cannot correct a situation or if it blows beyond
your ability to handle you are again to contact Commander Blake who will
work with you on a solution. Do not think that you are the only person
working double shifts; if you do believe that then you are sorely mistaken.
This meeting is a meeting to openly discuss and in that each person has a
say and if you are not immediately replied to specifically do not assume
your words are not heard but your words are solely one piece of a puzzle."

Kylee bit her lip, holding back a growl as her eyes narrow to dangerous
slits. "Isn't it also the job of a captain to know the crew on her ship?"
she asked, her exhaustion not stopping her normal filter on what she said.
"I never once said I was the only one working doubleshifts.. but I do know
that the other departments are far larger in size, meaning they can spread
out the work And this is not the first time my thoughts have been ignored.
The last away mission my thoughts were completely pushed to the side.." She
took a deep breath, trying to calm herself as her vision took on a crimson
tinge, her anger growing to dangerous levels. "I do apologize captain for
speaking out of order, but going to the planet could be a bad idea.. Like
any animal, ya spook the prey, they stop following their normal pattern."

Vilqa leaned forward and gave her subordinate a firm glare, "Lieutenant Nix
mind your tone before anything I saw or do in response will become official.
I need you to suck it up. My vessel and crew have been at war since star
date 920620. That date is ingrained in my head. We have not rested since
then. We have run on bare bones since then. Do not even attempt to claim I
am not aware of the crew limitations, however if your crew do not show up
for their shifts that is sitll your responsiblity to monitor." Her voice
rose as she eplained further, "WE HAVE LIMITATIONS BECAUSE OUR FLEET HAS
LOST THOUSANDS OF PERSONNEL IN WAR! You must forgive Starfleet Command for
their lacklusted crewing." her tone lowered somewhat, "I do not even count
support staff and I will not list off the vessels that have been destroyed.
This here is a pleasure cruise because I kid you not this serenity will not
last and we will return to the Fourteenth Fleet and we will I ensure you
find our hand back in battle. As for not listening believe what you will
Lieutenant however I do believe you just walked off like a child while
Lieutenant Commander Lox was attempting to give information on the probes."
She inhaled, "And while you may believe going to the planet is a poor idea
that is not your decision to make. If you so strongly felt it so bring it up
on the forum of officers that I had gathered and do not walk away to sulk.
Everybody is tired and everybody is over worked." She calmed considerably,
"It is what it is. Now you can gather you witts and rejoin the group working
as a team or you can remain here in solitude. It is not about you Nix, it is
abou the whole vessel and a gathering of minds and ideas. You will not
always get your way; nobody does on here not even me."

Kylee arched her brow, though she bit her tongue before she said something
that would land her locked in her quarters, relieved of duty, though she
could have used the time off. She took a deep breath, forcing herself to
calm down before she spoke. "I do not mean not showing up for duty.. I mean
never came aboard the ship, captain," she said. "And I know a bit about
fighting.. being on a bird of prey.. tended to be in a few battles," she
said, her eyes flashing at the mention of being called a child, her hands
clenching as she fought back another bout of rage. "As you wish, captain,"
she said finally, dropping the subject for now.

[Science Lab]

Toby frowned at Justin, "No warning before this? Nothing to indicate it was
a danger?" His voice was a growl, and he hit his combadge, "Red alert, raise
sheilds and prepare for incoming solar flare. Radiation measures in effect.
All unnecessary personnel and families to interior portions of the ship!" He
knew K`y would come demanding to know what was going on even as the lighting
went red and his orders were reissued throughout the ship.
